27 Ene FRP++ Workshop 2020: Challenges on the composites market for the next 10 years and the role of the academy
The Consortium formed by the Universidade do Minho, the University of Girona (AMADE research group), the Università degli Studi di Napoli Federico II and the Institut national des sciences appliquées de Toulouse (France) have organized the first FRP++ workshop series, which took place on December 10th 2020.
The FRP++ Workshop 2020 was organised to deal with the current context, in which the composites industry has become essential in sectors such as aerospace and aeronautics, construction and infrastructures, automotive, wind energy, defence or maritime, among others. In fact, composite materials have unique characteristics such as lightness, high durability, excellent mechanical properties, ease of use, and virtually endless variety of shapes. These characteristics are even more critical when policies such as Paris Agreement or European Green Deal, linked together with the circular economy, blue economy or industry 4.0, require a new way of thinking, developing, using, reusing and recycling the materials, components and structures. Moreover, the current COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic is putting unprecedented threats to the global economy and on these paradigmatic changes. In this context, the academy plays an important role on it, by preparing future professionals to tackle these challenges.
During the FRP++ Workshop 2020, the Consortium presented the proposal of the European Master in Advanced Structural Analysis and Design using Composite Materials. Then, three keynote speakers from relevant composites market -ACCIONA, AIRBUS and VESTAS- shared their opinion about the composites market for the next 10 years and the role of the academy. Finally, a debate took place with the participation of the audience that had the possibility of exchanging opinions with the speakers.
