But the expensive and lengthy qualification test campaigns are a challenge to their application in structural designs. In this framework, the TREAL project aims to reduce and replace the expensive physical testing through numerical analysis. At the first step of the project, extensive experimental campaigns will be performed to obtain the material data of the thermoplastic materials. These will be used to implement reliable analysis models to predict the damage modes at different levels. Uncertainty quantification and management technologies are applied to obtain reliable material and design allowables using the developed analysis models.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>The topic manager of the project is Airbus and the consortium is formed by partners who are experienced in composite material manufacturing and testing, virtual numerical testing of advanced composite structures and also in the development of multi-scale material models for composite materials. Being the project coordinator, the AMADE research group is responsible for the experimental test campaign of the thermoplastic material characterization and the uncertainty quantification and management of the design allowable generation. Another partner, the University of Porto, is in charge of manufacturing the thermoplastic specimens and developing a novel thermoplastic material damage constitutive model. The third partner MSC e-Xstream is in control of the development of the parametric coupon models for virtual material and design allowable generation and subsequently creating a user-friendly platform
