DESCRIPTION
The Hairmate project aims at manufacturing and testing the next generation of aircraft seats designed in the former HAIRD project carried out by LEITAT. This project focus on the design and manufacturing of the moulds for the structural parts and the cushion, but at the same time, it is expected to optimize the design of the seating for manufacturing purposes. The moulds will be designed taking into account the different materials and composite manufacturing techniques such as the Sheet Moulding Compound (SMC), Wet Compression Moulding (WCM) and carbon Prepreg unidirectional tape (UD). A life cycle assessment of the product will be carried out as to guarantee that the new design and manufacturing technology improve in terms of product sustainability. Moreover, different tests will be performed mainly to confirm the mechanical performance and fire safety of the new seat. Finally, a full-scale seat will be tested under dynamic conditions to analyse the structural reliability and to bring this new concept of aircraft seating to the industry.
The topic manager of the project is the German research organization Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft with the headquarters located in Munich. The consortium is formed by experienced partners in the composite market: LEITAT, acting as the project coordinator, is in charge of the design and simulation of the seats., the AMADE research group is responsible for the characterization test campaign and provides support in terms of design of multi-material joints, and ALPEX company brings expertise in tooling systems for the aviation and automotive industry and will be in charge of the design and manufacture of the moulds.
