Doctoral thesis on high-volume manufacturing of advanced composite parts

Doctoral thesis on high-volume manufacturing of advanced composite parts

On May 27, 2024, Jose Antonio González Ruiz defended his PhD thesis entitled “High-volume manufacturing of advanced composite parts: reducing waste and curing time while maintaining high performance” supervised by Dr. Norbert Banco (AMADE – Universitat de Girona) and Dr. Jordi Farjas (Grup de Recerca en Materials I Termodinàmica – Universitat de Girona).

This PhD research investigates the improvement of the manufacturing of composite materials towards high-volume productions through the reduction of material wastage and the reduction of the curing time by using isoconversional thermal models.

This PhD contributes to an improved efficiency of the manufacturing process for composite materials in industrial sectors towards enhancing high-volume productions. It also contributes to the accurate modelling of the curing resin of thermoset resins facilitating the optimisation of the curing cycles and allowing for reduced manufacturing times while maintaining the mechanical performance of the parts.

Jose Antonio González would like to acknowledge the support of the industrial doctorate program of the Catalan Government, under the Grant 2018DI053.
