10 Dic The Air and Space Academy Recognizes one member from AMADE UdG
Dr. Albert Turon Travesa, researcher at the Analysis and Advanced Materials for Structural Design (AMADE) at the University of Girona (UdG), has been honored with the Academic Medal by the Air and Space Academy in France. He shares this recognition with Dr. Pedro Ponces Camanho from the University of Porto.
The award ceremony took place on December 6, 2024, at the “Salles des Illustres” de l`Hôtel de Ville in Toulouse, during the Aeronautical & Space Distinctions of the Air and Space Academy 2024. Both recipients were recognized for their significant contributions to scientific and industrial advancements in the integration of composite materials into European programs.
Founded in 1983 in Toulouse, the Air and Space Academy brings together a distinguished pool of experts dedicated to promoting the development of high-quality scientific, technical, cultural, and human activities in the fields of aviation and space exploration. Each year, the Academy awards medals to individuals and teams who have made outstanding contributions to these fields.
Dr. Albert Turon Travessa is a senior researcher at AMADE and professor in Mechanics of Continuum Media and Theory of Structures at UdG. His research focuses on the mechanical behavior of high-performance composites and bonded joints, aiming to advance non-deterministic modeling approaches. These innovations seek to revolutionize the development of new structural elements by reducing time to market, enabling innovative design concepts, and contributing to reduced fuel emissions in the transport industry through efficient material use.
He holds a European PhD from the University of Girona (2006), served as a Postdoc Researcher at the University of Porto (Portugal), and as a visiting researcher at NASA Langley Center (USA) and at Aalborg University (Denmark). He is currently a member of the council of European Society for Composite Materials and serves as member of editorial board of Composites Part B. He is author of more than 100 papers published in top-ranked international journals. He is ranked in the “World’s Top 2% Scientists ranking” published by Stanford University, in the “Best Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Scientists” list from research.com, and has received the ICREA ACADÈMIA award (2022).
Dr. Turon actively engages in technology transfer projects with leading international companies, particularly in the aeronautics sector. He is also deeply involved in education, contributing to the Master’s program in Mechanics of Materials and Structures (MMS) and the Erasmus Mundus Master FRP++.
