02 Sep AMADE successfully hosts the fourth edition of the European Conference on Crashworthiness of Composite Structures
From 28 to 30 July 2026, the University of Girona hosted the 4th edition of the European Conference on Crashworthiness of Composite Structures (ECCCS 2026), an international conference organised by the AMADE Research Group that brought together researchers, academics and industry professionals working in the fields of crashworthiness and dynamic characterisation of composite structures.
Over the three-day conference, participants shared the latest scientific and technological advances in the field through presentations, technical discussions and networking opportunities, fostering knowledge exchange and the establishment of new international collaborations.
The conference featured three outstanding keynote presentations delivered by Julien Berthe (ONERA – The French Aerospace Lab, France), Daniel Eakins (University of Oxford, United Kingdom) and Séverin Halbout (Airbus Helicopters, France), who provided valuable insights into current challenges and future perspectives in the field of composite structures and crashworthiness.
In addition to the scientific program, participants also had the opportunity to discover the cultural heritage of Girona and its surroundings, including a visit to the Greco-Roman ruins of Empúries. This social activity provided a relaxed setting that helped strengthen connections and foster interaction among participants.
The conference was chaired by Dr. Emilio V. González and Dr.Norbert Blanco from the University of Girona, and Dr. Michael May from the University of Stuttgart, who highlighted the high scientific quality of the contributions presented and the excellent engagement of participants throughout the three-day event.
The organizing committee would like to thank all participants, speakers, sponsors and collaborating institutions for their support and involvement, which were essential to the success of this fourth edition of ECCCS.
During the closing session, it was announced that the next edition of the conference, ECCCS 2028, will be held in Freiburg, Germany, where the research community will meet again to continue advancing research and innovation in the field of crashworthiness of composite structures.
